Oil on canvas, 1.02m by 1.52m

Following a Royal Academy Travelling scholarship awarded in 1959, I visited South Wales. I was deeply moved and inspired by the people. Tiger Bay, coalmines and slag heaps. This large painting exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1960 was painted in 24 hours and was still drying during the summer exhibition.
