Spirit Flight Over Cymbeline's Mount

This painting is called, "Spirit Flight Over Cymbeline's Mount' and is based upon the stories of indigenous people and places of power in the landscape. Cymbeline's Mount is a hill a few miles from my home in Buckinghamshire, which is rich in folklore. In ancient times, it was a stronghold of a Celtic king, Cunnobeline or "Cymbeline", as Shakespeare called him in his play of the same name. In Buckinghamshire children are often warned not to go to the hill after dark - if you walk around it three times you will meet the devil, legend has it. You are more likely to meet the Prime Minister (!) as the hill overlooks Chequers, the Prime Minister's country home. The hill has a mystical atmosphere and is profoundly beautiful.
